If you live in Eastern Massachusetts, you know April is an important month for yard and lawn care. Learn how you can prepare for the season ahead.

1. Lightly rake the grass. This helps with airflow and circulation and allows the blades of grass to stand up, exposing more blade surface to the sunlight.

2. Use a pre-emergent before soil temperatures hit 55 degrees. When forsythias start blooming, the crabgrass seeds are germinating!

3. If you didn’t winterize your lawn the previous fall and didn’t add a late-season fertilizer, use an organic one now.

4. Get a soil test. Consider adding humic acids and L-amino acids based on your results.
